268 – The Will to Live …

Saturday, May 15th, 2021

Life is based on equilibrium … the balanced consumption and exertion of energy sources,

and equilibrium is based on measurement … “the mass of a body is a measure of its energy content.[1]

But measurement needs self-reflection,

and self-reflection needs order,

and order needs consciousness,

and consciousness needs Life.

But what is Life … conscious Life?

How can Life be so ordered as to endow every organism on Earth with the same DNA, and yet be so chaotic as to bring destruction on its own creations?

Although I don’t know the answers, there is something I do know about Life: Based on the frailty of equilibrium and order, Life stays alive by inciting the will to live … the effort to adapt, to survive, and perhaps, to leave a mark on the world.

267 – What is it in us? …

Saturday, May 1st, 2021

How deeply sad it is to see the killing, and the hate, and the violence, and the cruelty, and the crumbling cities, and the starving children, when it doesn’t have to be this way.

What is it in us that incites us to not let others be what they are, to punish them for Being, to destroy their livelihood?

What is it in us that makes us think we have the right to destroy and kill other human beings for not being what we are?

What is it in us that makes it so unbearable to find peace and happiness just by being what we are and letting others be?

The flame of Hope flickers weakly in the midst of so much anger and intolerance.

What is it in us?
