242 – It is Entirely up to Us …

The fact that something can be pre-determined and free at the same time poses an irreconcilable contradiction to our intellect. Yet everything in Nature, including you and I, unfolds by following a process that is relatively pre-determined (fertilization, prenatal development, birth, infancy, childhood, youth, adulthood, old age, dissipation) while endowing us with a relative degree of freedom to choose how we transform ourselves and our world, how we adapt to changing environments, how we forge our destiny.

But a degree of freedom is not handed evenly. How can we compare the chances to choose of a child growing up in war-torn environments with those of a child growing up amid wealth and opportunity?

And so, for those of us privileged enough to have the freedom to choose, what we do with it is a responsibility.

Therefore, the crux of having a degree of freedom to choose is the knowledge that pre-determination lays ahead, inescapably waiting for the time when the significance of what we’ve done with our freedom      will be the measure of our transcendence into the continuum of Life.[1]

[1] Transcendence comes from the Latin prefix trans-, meaning “beyond,” and the word scandare, meaning “to climb.” When you achieve transcendence, you have gone beyond ordinary limitations. Vocabulary.com
