281 – I dream of a world where there is only one God …

I dream of a world where there is only one God

in our mystery

in our frailty

in our power

in our limits

in our freedom

in our destructiveness

in our ingenuity

in our instincts

in our purpose

in our roughness

in our beauty

in our ecstasy

we are that God

and that God is us.

“I believe in God, only I spell it Nature” Frank Lloyd Wright

  1. Mundo says:

Humanity embarked on a path of self-destruction when Greed was let run rampart and the search for Truth was delegated to religions. We were sent on a course to see Nature as a ’source’ of exploitation. Genesis 1.28 is a good example: “And God blessed, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”
But as in your Annie Dillard’s quote, Beauty is a part of us, performed whether we sense it or not it amid our devastated world.
Disappointment, sorrow, challenges are indeed a part of life, but are made more overwhelming by our feeling of isolation from the world that gives us life. To handle them we need to understand them in our connection with that world … in the beauty of knowing that you are that world and that world is you, and that out of myriad creatures in Nature you consciously reflect upon them and try to understand them.

  2. Anne says:

Daily one sees and hears of the failures of humanity- greed to poverty, obesity to starvation.
Annie Dillard writes,”The answer must be, I think, that Beauty and Grace are performed whether or not we will or sense them. The least we can do is try to be there.”
This leads to creativity and thought. How can I make a difference or how can I help? Even if this is in my own small way, one needs to search for what makes life meaningful and brings joy.
This begs the question of how does one handle disappointment, sorrow and challenges in life for these will always be port of living.
